Things to do

Walking & Dogs
KingswoodImmediately behind the cottage, the open hillside is managed by the National Trust and designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). From the cottage, you can walk up into Kings Wood, an ancient deciduous woodland, out onto Wavering Down (superb views) and over to Crook Peak. Across the fields by the river Yeo is a nice easy route back.

For the more ambitious, the Mendip Way will take you right to Weston super Mare in the west, or east to Wells some 10 miles away (there is a regular bus service).

Riding
Close by is The Mendip Stud which offers both Western and English riding lessons. If you’ve never tried Western riding then you could try a Western Experience Day. If you have some experience you may like to book a clinic with a visiting trainer on one of the Stud’s horses, or bring your own and livery it there. Badgworth Arena is also only a couple of miles away. Off road hacking and pub rides available at Tynings Trekking about five miles away. If you have your own horse or horses, there is a possibility of stabling them immediately behind the cottage with direct access onto the hill above.

Cycling & Bird-watching
There is good cycling in the area too. A cycle track runs close by that makes up part of the Strawberry Line and there are plenty of quiet roads around the surrounding villages. The Somerset Levels provide good cycling (very flat!) and fantastic bird watching, particularly on the RSPB Westhay Nature Reserve. Not just birds either - otters are regularly spotted there.

Climbing & Caving
Climbing is now permitted in the Cheddar Gorge all year but most routes are quite hard and for experienced climbers only. However, Rocksport offer climbing tuition on the easy bits. The Mendips are renowned for their caves which can be viewed at both Cheddar and Wookey Hole but if you're the sort of looney that enjoys forcing yourself through dark, dank narrow underground tunnels, Rocksport offer caving too.

Fishing
Coarse, game and sea fishing all available nearby.

Indoor Sport
If the weather is inclement, then Cheddar Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, gym, badminton courts and various drop-in classes.

Therapies
To help you relax, why not visit one of the therapists in the village. Amanda Lang is an excellent aromatherapist and Windsor House Health offers a wide variety of therapies.
